Zhú Jī (築基) in Chinese means “building the foundation”. The following are a list of different versions of “traditional” liuhebafa. The order is not important and neither am I favoring/endorsing any specific ones. I capitalized the surname because in Chinese, family name comes first and it can get confusing. You do not have to look through every video in detail from the start to where we are at in class.

CHAN and CHAN’s peers (1st generation from WU Yi Hui)

Chen Yiren (陳亦人) is a student of WU Yick-Fai and my sifu

LU,Gui-yao (盧桂耀) is a student of WU Yick-Fai

ZHANG Changxin (張長信) – my impression is the ZHANG was a good friend with CHAN with mutual respect.

LEUNG Tse pang (梁子鵬) – LIANG learn from WU for a brief period and later spent time with CHAN as well.

2nd generation from WU

CHOI Wai Lun (CHAN’s student) – performing the second half of the basic form. I have never met CHOI in person. He emigrated to the US right before I joined and I respect his work in Chicago.

LOK Cliff / GumTong (金彤) (CHAN’s student)- performing the second half of the basic form. This video was from the 80s when he performed at a Seattle event. Cliff is an actor and Gum Tong is his stage name. More people know his stage name than his real name.

MOK Kei Fai (莫其輝) (CHAN’s student)- We trained together under CHAN for quite a few years. We were good friends once but drifted apart over the years.

LU Zhiyun(盧志雲)

David CHAN (陳祖基) (CHAN’s student) with his son – David was the one who really got me to value physical conditioning despite the fact that LHBF is an internal style

Mario LAM (林子奇) (CHAN’s student) – a performance routine in the early 1980s. Looking back I see what I am doing better now and things that I did but not being able to fully explain or elaborate.

KW Hui (許傑華 – student of LU,Gui-yao)

Zhang Xiaoyuan (son of ZHANG Changxin)

3rd or Generation from WU

GumTong (金彤)’s student

Moy Style (student of LIANG) – responsible for the Taoist Taichi organization in Canada

Nelson Ma (student of Mok)

Exercise
Given the variations of the form between each other and from what you have already learnt, what is the “right” attitude in using these videos?
Highlight some of the things you are seeing or not seeing. Use YouTube’s specific time code if it makes it easier to pinpoint what you are talking about.
