In 2013, I probably finished less than 10 books. Borrowing from the library cost me gas, time and often late penalty charges. What is worse is that my books are not available when I have odd spare moments. In 2014, instead of physically going to the library, I borrowed online via the library – for read or listen. The result, I finished 66 books in 2014.
Sixty-six by itself is just a count and means nothing by itself. However, to be able to appreciate the ideas and work of so many creative people and be inspired by them is priceless.
I subscribe to Netflix because I don’t want to be limited to just North American content. There are so many foreign movies and series that is worth watching because they do look at the world differently. When I watch TV, I often have my tablet on my lap, check IMDB when I see a familiar face when I just can’t remember where I saw the actor before. With Golden Globe on Sunday night, they have live-feed – showing who won what instantly. If you want to find out more about the specific film or actor or director, the information is right at the finger tips.
Through social network, I meet people with similar interests that may not even speak English – men’s rhythmic gymnastics, martial arts or women’s rhythmic gymnastics.
Technology enables – it is neither good nor evil. It all depends on how you use it. Applying technology with the right mindset will allow you to tap into resources that is just unimagineable – some paid, some even free. Some people will say you can’t trust everything you see on the internet. Very true but neither can you trust everybody you meet.
