“Lu Hong 呂紅” is the name of a person whose last name is Lu. “Ba” means eight. “Shi 勢” translates to situations, momentum, power. In theory, it is another style originated by “Lu Hong” and is distinct from traditional LHBF. However, my grandmaster Wu Yi Hui 吳翼翬 was so intrigue by the style that it is incorporated into our standard curriculum.
“Lu Hong Ba Shi” is more than just another form to me. If you look at the form in a restrictive way, it is just eight distinct skills that you can find in most other styles. If however, you treat it as eight flows or essence, there are lots of LHBF concepts that can be explained / trained / realized through “lu hong ba shi” training.
Believe it or not, the following videos are all “lu hong ba shi” form, all with different subtleties. The performers are all from my generation – my training partners, peers and/or inspirations at some point in time.
