In gymnastics, being able to do a flip is great. However, to be awesome, the flip must be high and the landing be light without any extra steps. Those little penalty points can add up quickly and can cost you your competition.
In UFC, sloppy finishes can cost you your fight. Picture on the right is from UFC 143 prelim round Thompson versus Stittgen – Stittgen (on left) did a hook with a sloppy finish (with the left arm down) and was knocked out by a round house kick to the head in the first round.
Habits are formed from the daily training. You have to train yourself with lots of repetitions so that you believe in the system and will do it instinctively. The little habits (good or bad) everyday makes or breaks you – you cannot change your habits only when your life is dependent on it. So, it is not just about punching hard, it is also about finishing every hit.
